    do's and dont's

what should i be on the look out for???

i havent got them yet but should be daveling into this soon.

if anything im gonna try and clean them up real good and well my goal is to have a fresh top end. new valve springs, seals, newER rockers, new pushrods, still need lifters, maybe valves. then it will be onto belts, pulley's and finally the supercharger.

i figure if i do preventative maintence then i could get alot of miles/years out of this car.

what do you guys think. tips, sugestions??

remember this isent going to happen over night and im going to have time to do all of this.

i wouldnt waste my time. why do you need a "fresh" topend for? the hp gain isnt even worth the trouble of headwork , nor the price

so it will last longer. preventitive maintnence. i already have the rockers, pushrods, valve springs. its got a tick and im thinking it might be lifters. things get wore out over time and i drive it hard. would it not be smart to freshen it up???

and if i do the porting myself it would be free

Anyone have pics of head porting that they've done? I've got my L67 heads sitting on a bench in the basement. I'd like to do some mild improvements on top of what the machine shop will already be doing.

the only thing i know is to gasket match everything, maybe bore out the exhaust to the size of your headers if you have them.

tdc had some ported with pics. waiting on a response from him

read this thread from C-GP... lots of info rolled into one. Though as nice as it sounds to have a new top-end, do NOT count on having problems inthe future. As new parts can go wrong as fast as older ones. Expecially with break in periods.

that thread is THE thread to read about head porting. take your time and do a little at a time so you dont destroy the heads. remember, BIG != better.

zzp says stock heads start to become a flow problem over 500 lift. bio sounds like your custom grind would be choking with stock heads...

i think im gonna get the ported heads on there, meth, pulley and see where that gets me. i just dont wanna have to get a race tranny. if im gonna dump that much money into it why not get a better platform.

yeah, that cam wouldnt run awesome without nicely ported heads. that is why i had those heads. the plan was to get them ported and polished at a local shop with a nice valve job and put it all together as one setup.

ported heads will allow you to run a pretty damn small pulley even with rockers, but you wouldnt be taking full advantage of them without running a cam.
