Hey Guys....I;m not sure if this is the correct place for this but here goes...
I'm about ready to push my 97 Supercharged Grand Prix in to an open field...throw in a stick of dynamite and run. Coming home from work on a Friday, on the highway making the exchange from one highway to another when I noticed the tach was at 0. Threw it in neutral and tried to start it...it would run only briefly with an occasional 'Low Fuel" light (i had 3/4 tank of gas). long story short I was able to limp it off the highway, call a tow truck and had it towed home. Went and got a replacement fuel pump and got it mounted in the tank. Thank to some brilliant weenie in production they no longer make a pump with the same plug so I had to rewire the new one I got the fuel sending wire for the gauge hooked up, then checked to voltage on the two power leads.... 0 volts. . Pulled the connector off that's in the trunk and measured it there... 0 volts. Oh, by the way, I replaced the fuel module under the hood (#14) and confirmed the fuse was good and that I have power at the fuse. I also tried several combinations of swapping module #15 and #14 with the new and old modules...still 0 volts in the trunk...
I have run out of ideas....short of wiring two lines to the trunk with a toggle switch to power the pump on/off... just kidding...I know that would not be the right fix. Any thoughts from the experts?? Fortunately I have borrowed a car to drive my 45 minute one-way trip to work and back but I need to get this piggy running again... Thanks Guys

tack dropping to zero and stalling is the crank sensor. no idea whats up with the pump other then you turn the key and it primes for a few seconds then turns off. wont turn back on till it fires up, with a bad crank sensor it will crank till it feels like starting. might be today or next week. unless repaired. most of the time ppl call the tow truck get home and it will fire up. but will crap out soon after again.

It's not the crank sensor as I replaced that earlier this summer and she was purring like a kitten when I got that done....

I am replacing the resistor (the porcelain "U" shaped thingy) so hopefully that will get my voltage back.... problem is I am confused as to what wires go where on the fuel pump as the new pump did not have a plug that matched up to the stock plugso I have to rewire it for the new plug... I have a black, black with white stripe, gray-ish and purple wire on the old plug. Can anyone clarify what wires are for what??? thanks.

that resistor wont make the tack drop to zero and stall the engine out. only the crank sensor will. if you went with anything but a ac delco part its likely dead again.

The tach dropped to zero because the engine was not running. When I would try to start it, it would run and the tach worked fine. Everything pointed to the fuel pump as the "low fuel" light would come on when I knew I had 3/4 tank of gas. I have the new pump in and am just trying to get wiring right and get the power to the pump....

Just a quick update..... I replaced the fuel pump, the fuel pump module (#14 on the module center under the hood) made sure the fuse was good AND replaced the porcelian resistor which I ultimately put in the engine compartment instead of back on the frame rail. She's purring like a kitten again. No better feeling than hearing that puppy roar to life!
