Thread: Smaller Pulley on 190k Engine?

So Ive got my 2000 GTP and it just hit 190k miles. Ive heard mixed things about the strength of these motors and what they can handle, so far the only performance mods Ive added are the zzp cold air intake and 3" downpipe from their stage 2 kit. I also got a 3.4" pulley from that kit that I havent put on yet because of the risk of blowing the motor. So just wondering if I could get some opinions on if its a good idea or not to do. Thanks!

As long as you have a way to scan the engine for KR or "knock" and supporting mods for the 3.4 then mileage shouldn't be an issue. When tuned properly these engines will handle 350HP all day long. It's all in the prep.

Also, if this is your daily driver then I'd really make sure you do your research and do it right the first time or you could end up looking for a replacement engine and be out a ride for that time.

As long as your engine is in good shape and you run a scanner to monitor knock you should be golden. Mine was full bolt on and I had almost 300k of hard miles on the original engine before smacking a wall. Stay up on your maintenance do thing's right, and resolve issues while minor. Do that, and the engine will last forever even with a wee bit more boost.

These engines are very solid and reliable beasts it's every other part of the car, especially the transmission. you need to be worried about with these W bodies.

An old buddy of mine had a 99 with a 3.6" that he ran for years. The last time I spoke with him was in '13 but at that time he had 403K on the clock and said the car still ran like new. He took care of the car but DID NOT baby it. The transmission on the other hand was a different story. The car had 3 in its life at that point. If you take care of them these engines will last.
