So it's time for annual inspection for the GTP, and it's not gonna pass emissions. Good old P0420 and evap code as well. Now, that being said, I've been planning on going with a 3.6" pulley, fenderwell intake and a 3" DP (maybe even full 3" exhaust) for awhile now but haven't gotten around to it. For the low price of 125 bucks though, I can at least get a one shot tune that eliminates the rear 02 sensor and evap DTC's so I can get the car inspected. If I get a tune that is set up for those mods, I'm sure it won't be ideal for the stock setup, but what are the opinions of how it will run until I get that stuff on?

Another thing..... Has anybody gotten a canned tune from Intense on a stock car? If there are noticeable gains to be had, maybe I'll just do the intake and DP and leave the rest alone.....

it may run a little rich but it will run. and "if it don't set the light, everything's alright."

the biggest change for a tune is the way the transmission shifts. it really changes the way the car behaves.

I just got off the phone with John from Intense. Wanted a chance to bounce some ideas off him. He knows his stuff and seemed like a good dude. He explained all the differences that the tune would accomplish on a stock car and it sounds totally worth it. I also talked to him about my knock issue and he gave me some good advice on combatting it. Looks like I'll be changing out my fuel pump (which makes sense since it happens mostly at the part of the fuel map that requires the most fuel). I have an idea I want to pull off that is "unconventional" and even though he thought I was out of my mind for not doing it the "easy way" he totally got where I'm coming from and he's confident he can tune for it, so I'll most likely be splurging for the 175 dollar option where they'll tune it more than once. As for what I'm actually doing, I'll make a separate thread about it once it's done. That might be never, but who knows.

I'm not a fan of John.

It makes no sense to change out the fuel pump without checking pressure to see if that's even a problem.

Yeah what else did you tell him that made him suspect the pump? It could be several things causing knock at "the part of the fuel map that requires the most fuel", like a dirty fuel filter or bad for. That area is called power enrich. And that is made greater with higher rpm. But I'm sure he wouldn't tell you to replace a relatively expensive part based on one test result.

I'll be doing the filter first, obviously, but I do think I'm also doing the pump either way, since it's 15 years old and has 174K miles on it, and I do plan on bumping up the power anyway. I'm also going to be fabbing up a 3" DP and possibly a full 3" exhaust eventually without a cat, so that DTC removal will be handy.

So I got the new ecm with tune on it from Intense today. I’ll be writing up a post on it. I’m very disappointed, performance-wise, but it was worth the money to get rid of the 0420 code.
