If i cant convert it easily, i dont think ill go gen5 Having to buy a new IC core, and lower Intake would cost me way too much.

At Sgt Marshals request, im posting my litany of questions here for him and anyone else
Planning to pick up a gen5 with N*
Right now ive been running a 2.9 on my gen 3 with 0 knock. (havent tried the 2.8)
1. Is there any reason with my mods i cant run a 2.9 on the gen 5? I know it makes more boost
2. Can i yank the snout off and use a press to remove the current pulley and install my pulley hub or will that damage it?
3. is there any kind of porting i should do to the gen5 while its out
4. off topic, but what valve cover gaskets are best to stop leaks ? my rear one is leaking.
5. what would the benefit be in grabbing a set of heads and getting them ported ? potentially even bigger valves
6. if i get valve guides installed can i still use the factory valve train
My friend found and pulled the gen 5 of the 07 in the JY. a little scoring on the rotors. anything i should be worried about?

they say to run about 2 sizes bigger when swapping to a gen 5. if it was me, I would take the snout off and send it to Ed LaBarge because I suck at doing those types of things, but if you have the right tools and confidence you can do it right, you should be fine. as I suggested earlier, you could port the inlet of the gen 5, but if you aren't going to touch the adapter plate and throttle body, I don't know how much it will actually benefit. picking up a set of heads and porting them should net a decent amount but if it's not done right, it will hurt your performance. when I had mine ported, I also had a valve job done. I'm not aware of any bigger valves you can put in. if you do pick up a set of heads, and port them, you should also do a cam swap and get rid of those rockers. if I didn't answer any questions, it's cause i'm not sure what the answer is.
also, it says I need access to see the picture of the gen 5 you picked up.
You'll just have to try the pulley and scan for knock. I'm going to try my 2.8 and I'm having the snout machine for a smaller pulley. I've seen p ople press the pulleys on and off, and some have done it with steering wheel pullers I think. I'm trying to figure out a cheaper alternative than buying the pulley remover myself. Might even just use an angle grinder or something to machine it. Really don't want to dump in 200 plus dollars to just get the snout done. I have some angle iron and a welder I'm going to try to figure something out. Just get felpro gaskets. Valve guides won't effect anything if done right. Some say there's gains to be had porting the Gen V but most say it's not worth it. I might smooth the outlet a little bit but that's all
Hi Folks ,
Got my gen 5 SC. The inlet is all kinds of nasty, not sure why or how.
Also, can someone point out which ports need to be sealed off and which ones are the silencers that i need to weld closed ?

Im planning to at the very least swap the oil in this thing, since i intend to spin it to infinity and beyond.
there's two ports that are at the narrow section of the triangle where the boost is freed from the blower. you should also remove the h bar, mean the bar that separates the blower outlet from the boost bypass valve circle.
What's the point of removing the h bar? And why are you welding the silencer ports? Like JB weld? Just curious honestly.
One of my favorite things about the regal is the SC whine, closing off those ports apparently improves that. I believe he will weld actual metal in place with a mig, or something.
I dropped the blower off at my dads place, hes much better with fabricating than i am. (steady hands) He's going to pull the rotor pack, hopefully the coating survives.
ZZp put a gen 5 N* TB adapter on the pull list, but put a gen3 in the box, so i guess i wasnt fast enough when i called them friday. Ill call them on monday and ship the gen 3 TB adapter back.
I wnt to the local pick and pay, and got my TB, TPS, whatever that other sensor is, the MAF, the center brake light assembly, the illusive Monsoon rear speaker cover, and a a few odds and ends for 70 bucks. I was going to pull heads but it was 99* here today.
I am planning to install the meth system this weekend. any suggestions on which relay to run the key on wire to?
Last week i put 11 gallons of e85 in the car, calculated it out to about an e55 blend, (assuming true e85). I put the 2.9 pulley back on and on my way to add more e85 today i logged the KR. I didnt see a thing. That makes me think that with full e85, i shouldnt have any issues running the 2.9 on the Gen 5. I think im going to slap the gen5 on with the 2.9 and see how she does.Ive seen 10.5 at the top of second so im hoping for 13 or 14 PSI. (especially since the coating on the gen 3 rotors is gone.
yes, gen 3 and a 2.8 made the same boost as a 3.0 on a gen 5. the gen 3 made 13 with no coating at all. it also made 13 with the coating on it. looked like chrome rotors. meth will strip the coating off real nice.
Should i go ahead and tap the SC for the Meth nozzle now while its off the car? Probably wont have meth installed for a bit.
