I had it rebuilt after I replaced the battery and the car wouldn’t start. Didn’t test it before having it rebuilt. Passed the bench test twice and worked fine on the ground hotwired to the battery.

(I work for the FD so I’m gone 24 hours at a time).
So with everything connected I get 9.7-9.9 to the purple wire. Is this enough to start the car? Should I work backwards from there?

im not sure ive only used a simple test light, it gets pretty bright. like its getting 12 volts, but im not 100% sure really.

you could take a wire from the pos terminal off the battery, then touch it to the little stud and see if it cranks.

bridging the two studs with a screw driver does the same thing tho. the pos cable should have 12 volts. that might be worth checking with your vm.

    It's supposed to get 12V.

Check what you are reading at the battery between terminals. Let's work this from start to finish. You said new battery and we are assuming it's good. A new battery could have a bad cell. It's not common, but can happen.

Been away awhile. Work and church stuff. Anyhoo, I was trying to test the positive bolt at the starter and the negative bolt at the trans bell housing with my voltmeter. A 3 person job. Well the freaking thing started! Made no sense to me at the time. But I decided to completely remove my negative cable and replace t even though I had replaced it shortly before I parked it for a year. It was severed. WTH?!?! Being that it’s Tucson and a hundred and stupid more days than it’s not the plastic cable retainers? (Whatever they’re called) failed and let the sleeve with both positive and negative cables rub against the lowest pulley on the serpentine (water pump maybe?)
So got it all replaced and it started right up. Only problem is finding those retainer clips. I’ll use zip ties for now but those clips are not available at Autozone, oreillys or Pep boys.
Thank You everyone for your input. You guys make this site what it is!

The retainers are easy to get from your local dealer or online. Probably easier ... google searched and got lucky
