title says it. iv got an 04 compg that the insurance company may be totalling out due to an accident and a buddy of mine has a 1997 coupe that i could swap my entire drivetrain into including the engine, trans, harness, pcm, suspension and ect you get the point. literally just take every piece of my compg and put it into a 97 coupe. now what my question is is if anyone has ever attempted this with success?????? should i also swap my gauge cluster and shifter???? any input is awesome unless you are telling me im wasting my time bc i know it cam be done but need some input if anything special needs to be done or an easy way to do it. also will my subframe from my compg be as easy as replacing the 97 coupe with it?????

You would have to swap the entire harness and I mean everything to make it work. So engine/transmission harness, fuse block, interior harness, BCM harness and so on to even be able to use the 2004 wiring and computer/dash board.

You'd be better off designing a car from the ground up basically.

Personally, I wouldn't throw that much money or time on it. The comp g and really all 04+ use an entirely different data protocol (CAN BUS not class 2 data mixed with UART) so NONE of the modules off the 97 will work at all. You would literally be taking every bit of wire and swapping it. You'd have enormous trouble getting small things like door locks, power windows, and everything else to line up and match. You would have to custom fabricate brackets for everything and every sensor would have to be custom routed.

You could easily swap the engine into the 97, just change tb and minor vac/pcv lines. You'd loose the shifter and gauges though. Front brakes, front and rear sway bar should be able to be swapped no problem.

The subframe should match up just fine. Same as the impalas which people swap all the time.

The only way this would be feasible is if you just wanted the most stripped down car imaginable and no power door locks or amenities of any kind. Otherwise this project will become your nightmare.

Again, can be done, but you'd be better off swapping the engine and upgrading performance as you go.

As far as I know GM didn't go can bus until 2008, that is why 2008 is a year only computer.

The BCM in a 04+ controls more than just the windows and lights. The dash controls/radio/chimes/locks/windows/ theft system/ignition system and all that jazz is going to be on there.

The 2004 dash would never plug into the older car and the 2004 engine computer would not work in an older car with the old cars wiring, fuse blocks and 97 ignition harness.

It could be done but it's a lot of work to gut everything just so all the electronics would work.

The 97 pcm can not control the 04+ trans. Why not just use the l32 engine and gen v blower and make things much easier on your self. You also never mentioned if the 97 coupe was a n/a or s/c car?
