On the drive home from work today it was running fine through first and second gear. Seemed when it jumped into third and gave it a little more throttle the rpms dropped instantly to 1200 and wouldnt go back up. I backed off the throttle completely and gave it a little gas it and it was fine. Then a gave it more and the rpms again dropped to right around 1500. Previosly on the highway it seemed like the rpms would hang right around 2200 and ran great, but when i would give it more gas, the rpms would stay in the same spot. Im not sure if this is a trans or an engine issue. Could be a clogged MAF even a glogged cat. Also I think im burning some coolant too. Could be the issue clogging the cat. Anything helps guys. Its my onl form of transportation so hopefully this will be a cheap fix. Thank guys

id start with a tune up then.

get iridium plugs and any cheap store brand wires work fine.

Why do you think you are loosing coolant? Is the CEL on? And on top of what Scotty mentioned you may want to clean the MAF as well. Just be sure to use approved MAF cleaner and not brake clean or TB cleaner on it as it could kill it. You may need a security torx bit to remove the MAF. Not sure if they were still on the 04+ cars.

MAF is a separate unit on 04+ and easy to remove. Probably wouldn't hurt to pull the TB and clean it up too.

History? How long have you had it?

if you're unsure of last tune up, that means you are unsure of a lot of things. I'll assume it's a recent acquisition then? If so, a top to bottom tune up, fluid/filter change is in order. Plugs, wires, air filter, oil change/filter, coolant flush, trans fluid change w/filter. Clean maf, change pvc, some injector cleaner too... That's a minus to get it going with a fresh start. Especially fo it's your only and daily driver, an investment well worth it. Then you can check compression if you're actually losing coolant, among other checks like oil to see if there's coolant in it, etc.

    Good Luck!
