I have a 99 grand prix gt that has problems starting. It turns over for about 4-5 seconds before it starts, but never fails to start. You can smell gas when it finally starts. It also feels like it is missing out when go up hills with the cruise on or when accelerating very lightly. MAF has been replaced and still not running correctly. The car runs great under full acceleration and around town, but on the highway feels like it hiccups quite frequently. I has also just died on several occasions when pushing on the gas from a stop. Please give suggestions if anyone has any. Thanks!!

Starting issue might be the fuel pressure regulator. Pull the vacuum line off it and see if some fuel comes out. They are known to go bad.

Any other recent tune up work done to the car?

Random dying is the well known crank sensor issue.

The crank sensor has been replaced as well as the coil pack and icm. Has new plug wires and a new fuel pump. I unhooked the maf and it runs better, but still has an extended crank time before starting. Found out the maf was reconditioned instead of new. Will be replacing with a new one, but still don't understand the long crank time and strong smell of gas.
