I ran TONS of timing on my L36 car.
Pretty lean too.
It didn't knock on 87...ever.

I have done a good amount of tuning on my L36. I started with 93 as this is what i used in my DOHC before the 3800 swap. I was shocked that it didn't respond too well with extra timing. so I step down to 89 and then to 87 and noticed that there was no diff in the amount of timing i could command.
Results... on the L36 in my car could care less if it had 93 or 87. since my wallet likes the 87 that is what i run.
Reread Bill's post, he's the only one who seems to know what's going on.
With a N/A grand Prix, you'll see no difference in WOT no matter the year. The cruising cells' timing is what matters. 97-03 will probably not benefit at all. But 04-08 has more timing added to the cruising cells, enough to cause the 04-08 models to have KR at part throttle. The higher octane still won't affect WOT, but it will allow the car to make use of the extra timing while cruising, giving you better MPG.
I get more miles out of a tank of high octane than 87, which winds up making the 93 more cost effective in the end.
