My car has been overheating for a while after 2 thermostats, I decided to change the radiator. I changed the radiator, the thermostat, both hoses and flushed the hell out of it. After driving for a few days i thought everything was OK but today I was driving and it started to overheat again. Could it be the water pump? That is the only thing i can think of that i haven't changed for the cooling system. I did look under the hood when it started to overheat, both hoses had a lot of pressure, not sure if that means anything. I'm just looking for some option before i rip in to the water pump. Thanks a lot.

could be being you've change ever other major part.

the impeller could be rusted away.

how did you flush it? did you let the engine pump the coolant out the upper hose, or just pulled the hoses and re filled it?

was it pumping at a good rate, smoothly? if the rad was full, the upper hose should flow steady. with some good flow to it.

if you think it was slow, the pump could be rusted up like i said before.

Nowhere in the opening post did I see where he bled the cooling system after changing all these parts. Armyrebel- each time you opened up the cooling system (thermostat changes, radiator change, etc) did you follow the proper bleeding proceedure for these cars? They can be wierd on temps if there is air trapped in the system somewhere. Just a thought.

Definitely try bleeding out any air again, and check the water pump pulley for any play. Mine got a little wobbly, just barely, and a few weeks later my 05 GP started running very hot.

Also, is it really overheating? Your engine coolant temp sensor (ECT) can go bad and read incorrectly.

Thanks for all the responses and help. I ended up taking it to a shop, and they told me I had 2 blown head gaskets. On top of that I happened to crack a head as well. Long story short, the car is dead. On the bright side, I am looking at getting a 2002 GTP, looking at it tomorrow. So I guess it a blessing in disguise. Thanks again, All.

a used engine is still cheaper, even installed, then another car with unknown history.

Yeah and I wouldn't rely on what one mechanic says in a heartbeat. I mean the 3.8's very rarely blow head gaskets anyway, and if overheating was the only symptom of a problem, I'm not sure how that diagnosis was made...

Unless of course if it overheated and you let it get to the point that it got so hot it seized up or warped a head.
