my cat is completely shot and i dont feel like spending $600+ to fix it so i was wondering if there is anything i should know before i do anything. i was going to just cut it out along with the u-bend and put a piece of pipe in to replace it and then get a o2 sim from zzp. other ideas are welcome.

An o2 sim will only work if your car is 2001 or older. Otherwise your check engine light will be on without a tune. I had the same problem and went with a ZZP dp. Easy bolt in and I don't mind the light on the dash.
What year is your car? Gt,gtp? Any other mods? Do you need to pass an e test?

If you have an 01+ the sim will not work accurately, you will have fueling issues!...you can use the search bar and look further into this as there are plenty of threads with more info.

He has a 02 GT, so he'll need to buy a quality cat converter to do it the correct way.

A good cat will run you 200-300 bucks for a drop in unit, comes with the donwpipe and all. No u-bend either. Most all come with a warranty aswell.

I'd personally leave the cat-back stock/just replace the cat, it doesn't become even remotely restrictive ex kept on modded supercharged builds. I'd use the money you save on that on just getting headers. Bigger improvement and if won't mess with the post-cat O2 sensor.

    Just get headers.

    With a catless downpipe.

Then your done with it, and no u-bend either.

The good thing about getting headers without a Cat, it will never go bad, cause its not there.

Wait for Speed Daddy headers to come back in stock or buy some SS Auto Chrome. both are $220 shipped to your front door.

    1. Take the CAT off, cut it so you can jam a pipe through the cat, opening it up/unplugging it, then weld or clamp it back together.

    2. If you replaced for a pipe, it would be a bit more raspy, but you could try offsetting the rear 02 so it is not in the direct exhaust stream to try preventing the code. Instead of welding a 02 bung on directly on the exhaust, weld or find a small pipe that will bring the bung 2-3" away from the exhaust stream.

    3. If you remove completely and use the 02 sim, you may not even notice the CAT diagnostic test running that is a concern on the 01+ or it is possible it won't run at all. So there are plenty of ways.
