1997 Grand Prix SE 3.8 Series II
    178K miles

Well my 'low coolant' dash light is flashing quickly on and then off in a repeating pattern. I see no leaks. Radiator is full and reservoir is above cold fill line. Coolant is nice and clean.

Sorry to ask a question that's probably already been addressed... Is there a common cause for this? I'm thinking the sensor is bad or the harness is damaged. All gauges are fine and no SES light. No other dash lights on.

I only ever had the SES light on once for a day with 'lean fuel bank II' due to loss of vacuum from throttle body/fuel pressure reg./transmission. Had my oil light blink on for 5 seconds a few months ago while backing out of a parking space on a hill. That's it the whole 20k miles I've owned this car. Guess I'd like to keep it that way. Thanks for advice.

Change your coolant sensor. It's probably got a bunch of gunk on it making it miss read. It's a very common problem.

I've got a similar issue with the cooling fans not coming on and the car is pissing a quart antifreeze after turning it off.
    Anything else to check?
    Thanks

Unplug coolant sensor and see if light goes out.

KZOO, it's trying to tell you something. Honestly. it should either be on or off, not flashing. If I can..I'll look it up in the manual. year and model please.

Static.. fix the leak. Likely it's the end tank of the radiator.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Thanks Bill. It is a '97 SE with 3.8 N/A. It does get a little hot, goes a tiny bit past 210 in traffic idling but goes back down. Standard thermostat, properly bled it myself. Old radiator though.. Nothing obvious is wrong.

Tiny bit past 210 in traffic is normal, weird, but normal. Dunno about the 97's but my 04's fans dont kick on until 217 ish. At idle i go up to 221 then back down to 200 before the fan shuts off. (190ish at highway speed, depending on ambient temperature). If its wicked cold and the heat is cranked and im going downhill, it will fall back into the upper 170's
