I am stumped and need some help. The engine is a 2005 seriesIII. Iron head, block, and aluminum intake upper and lower. The following iswhat I know:
    Taking in coolant
Losing oil. Doesshow a small external leak but not sure if it is leaking as much as it is losing.
    No water incoolant
Compression checkshowed 100 Psi in # 4 cylinder
    All others175-180
Spark plugin # 4 look just like the others.
Shows ahistory of a miss in # 4 but is not currently missing
Strongexhaust pulse out the oil fill tube
Oil in plenumto the point the air clean has oil on it. Not sure if this is due to an overoil file.

This is my thought, slow leak in cylinder head gasket. Washeddown cylinder walls and took out rings. The problem is, these motors are notknown for blowing head gaskets. Also, I would think the spark plug would showsome signs of oil or water consumption. I would also think that with the amountof exhaust that is in the rocker cover, if caused by blow by, there would alsobe water in the oil.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.
    Thanks,

Exhaust in the crankcase is the deal breaker isn't it. Yet you still have some compression. I'd pull it apart and take a look or get a borescope if you have the ability.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Pressure in the oil filler neck of the valve cover suggests a bad PCV valve. Also sounds like it's time for LIM gaskets. Take a look on the "front" of the motor (where all the pulleys are) and see where the LIM meets the block/heads. If the edge of that gasket is black, then its the plastic ones. If gray, then aluminum.

I changed the intake gaskets over the weekend but due to not having the car longer I came up short of pulling the head. It is the rear head in question. The intake ports were coated with carbon other then where the injectors sprayed. No positive signs of water. I did an intake on my 1998 and it had distinct water flow lines.

I shook the PCV valve and it rattled and I could blow through it so I did not change it.

I am still waiting to hear if it is still using water.

That is a good question. I never removed the PCV valve from the upper. Just shook the upper to see if it rattled.

That is one way to keep from breaking that silly NA plastic pcv cap. Although if it's just starting this issue.. likely something happened inside.

Not sure how long it has been going on. My daughter is 21 and thinks if her car gets her from point "A" to point "B" then that engine light that goes on every ounce in a while must not mean anything.

I have a neighbor kid I put a car together for. She wants tint, headlights and other bs cosmetic stuff. Meanwhile I made her a list that started with spare keys and ended at wheel bearings and AC seal kit. I understand ...trust me.
