Step one complete! Disconnected the MAF sensor, drove the 4 mile back home, and swapped out the MAF sensor from my Impala. Going to test it by driving to a friend's house about 20 miles away. If I may it back, I'll call it a success.

I'd say problem solved, until I get the replacement. Just put about 45 miles on the moved MAF sensor, no problems. Now just have to wait for a replacement! Thanks for all the help. Next time the car dies, I'll just have it towed to my house instead!

Ed Morad was out of parts, so I went to Greenleaf Auto Recyclers. They had the same part for cheaper, and offer a 6 month warranty standard. Just saying they might be an option, too.

Even though your check engine light did not come on i can promise you that there is a code there until it is cleared. Take a Tech 2 and check for codes and then look them up on a GM web site. Do not....DO NOT use any other tool other then a tech 2 and DO NOT go onto google and look it up.

I have an ODB II reader, but since I replaced the MAF sensor, no trouble. I'll hook it up and see if there is anything. I'll clear it if so.

Um.....any scan tool will work to pull a code. Most people don't have access to a Tech 2, nor the money to buy one.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but if you get a code, then fix the problem, the code will clear itself. I did some engine work and got two spark plug cables swapped. Check Engine light came on, of course. After switching the cables correctly, light went out. So even if a "hidden" code was thrown, I would think it would be gone now, since the car has been running fine for a week.

Once a code is set in the PCM, it will remain there for 40 ignition cycles.
After that it will eventually clear itself.

I knew it cleared itself somehow. There's at least 2 cycles a day for me, and I did some driving last weekend, so I'm at least halfway there now, if not more!

Sounds like one of the programmed "Mr Goodwrench" zombies...

I'm pretty sure all MAF codes set a CEL. I could always go open up the PCM file in my tuner and see which ones do and which ones don't.

An engine code will not clear itself you have to clear it with a scan tool. When the code is set it will store the code in the pcm memory.

    WHAT?? WHY?? ARE YOU HIGH??

a tech 2 is a great tool, however for simple code stuff any OBD 2 code reader will work , and google if you need to personally i use ALLDATA and a snap on MODIS

PS - im a GM tech CERTIFIED
