Thread: Cylinder #2 misfire

As the title states, my car is misfiring on cylinder #2. The misfire occurs right after startup (doesn't matter whether is a cold start or not). It will miss for about a mile or so of driving and then, like a lightswitch, it goes away. It will do this every time I start it. Here is a list of some things that have been checked/replaced already.

Plugs
ICM
PCM
Plug wires
Coils
Injectors
Seafoamed

Any ideas on what could be causing this?

I don't hear any tapping sounds, just your usual misfire.

I will try the seafoam as I know the car could use it elsewhere as well.

Seafoam didn't fix it. Any other ideas?

What plugs are you running? What gap?

^stock replacements, or equivalent. The shop put them in.

So a shop has been doing the work, not yourself?

My parents own the car and they don't trust me working on it, so I take it to a local shop and we work together on it.

Anyways, the shop just called and said its working now. They ran the cleaner again and changed 2 plugs. Seems weird to me that this would have fixed it...I have a strange feeling that the problem decided to go away on its own just as mysteriously as it arrived and has a good chance of returning.

They changed two plugs. I would be that is where the problem was. Either gapped wrong or cracked them.

That could be it, but this is the third time within 6,000 miles that my car has had to have some plugs replaced. Every 1,500 miles or so a new misfire condition seems to arise which could mean
A) I am unlucky and 3 unrelated misfire events took place
or
B) underlying problem that is causing the plugs to die prematurely.

Agree with matt. If they plugs are smashed, then you have a deeper problem. Ask the shop what the plugs look like when they replace them.

When it happens again I will make sure to get a picture of the plugs, so I will keep this thread on hold until I have more information.
