Could be leaking, could be burning it.
check the level, the sender could be bad
Thats what I was thinking. You'd have to lose over half your oil for it to trigger the sensor and I dont see that happening without some sign or symptoms of trouble. The bad side of it is that you have to drain the oil out to change it, or at least get it below the level of the sensor hole in the pan. If you end up replacing it, be sure to use some thread sealant.
okay today i hopped in and now its off.???
You know you can always check the dipstick. Sensors can go bad.
i checked the level its fine.must be the sensor .can i go with it til my next oil change?
all it does is turn on the light so sure
phew!i payed too much for that damn oil .lol.so just so i can know in the future, what causes oil to burn?and what gaskets can cause it to leak?
Thread sealant is a thick substance that usually comes in a can. You can get it at the auto parts store. It usually has a threaded cap with a brush attached to it, just paint some on the threads before you screw them in. You don't need a massive amount on there, just enough to fill the threads.
I have a similar problem. I have 3500 miles on my car since I bought it, 23k total. It's a 2005. The low oil level warning came on the other day. I checked the dipstick and in fact it was low. Put a quart in and the level was good. I am not real happy this thing burns oil with 23k miles on it. I had a 1994 GP and it became a fill the oil and check the gas routine. A quart every 500. Any ideas on this one fellas? It's definitely not leaking it onto my garage floor.
I'm guessing GM will say that a quart every 3k is within spec. Then they'll remind me I'm out of warranty.
Mine was leaking it internally onto the LIM, as you can see here:

It was probably also being burned. I also burned a little oil when I used a PCV valve of a brand other than AC Delco. The AC Delco was cheaper than the Auto Zone brand anyway... Just some suggestions.
i hope it isn't from worn guides .i just noticed im down a qt.thanx for the info buckeye
