2001 Pontiac Grand Prix Gt... Losing coolant, however no coolant in oil or under vehicle. Runs fine with no problems. There is some dripping of liquid/water at both tailpipes while running. Could it be losing coolant through the exhaust? If so what could be the cause? I was thinking intake manifold gaskets but wanted to see if anyone had any other ideas or experiences.

check your oil level if it's over full then your intake manifold is leaking coolant into the oil.

Its likely your UIM is warped or your LIM gasket is shot.

If that is the case, buy a new UIM and the felpro permadry plus 2nd design and either install yourself or get someone to.

I will surely bet that your upper intake is warped and the coolant o-rings are filling your lim with coolant. Have repaired many of these and if it is not taken care of immediately you won't be driving anywhere.

I'm gonna go with something close to the other guys...

I'd say your LIM is currently filling with about 1/2 gallon of coolant. It's doing this through a crack in the UIM where the EGR tube goes up through it. Heat cycles and time tend to crack the UIM right where the EGR tube pokes through. on the other side of that plastic is a coolant port.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Not to bad if you can turn a wrench pretty decent.

It's pretty straight forward for car work. I'd pull the TB and look for the coolant in the UIM. If you see that..it's the issue.

Anyone have a parts list for this problem? My '01 GT started having similar problems this week. I did have a little bit of milk on the rad cap tho. I have heard HG's are not likely to go on these engines so I am hoping it's either the uim or lim gaskets. Is there a DIY for plugging the UIM coolant lines to fix the issue for good when I do the LIM gasket? TIA.

That's great, thanks. WIll definately do this when I replace the gaskets. Does plugging the LIM mean I don't have to worry about replacing the UIM if it's cracked, since there won't be any coolant flowing though there any more?

I JUST had this job done (my brothers the machanic).. mine was leaking below the egr valve onto the block. i guess thats a common place for it to leak.. it took a little while but we also did the valve cover gaskets. (while your in there chech your valve cover gaskets since there right there). ALSO you will probably need to replace the plastic coolant elbows. mine we pretty much shot once they were pulled out.. i tried to do everything i could while i had it apart so i just bought a top end gasket set and am saving the head gaskets for my project engine! goodluck! (the coolant elbows are about $3.50 FYI)

OK, so I got the new UIM, LIM Felpro gaskets, plastic OEM gasket for between the UIM and LIM, coolant elbows, t-stat, oil and filter and coolant. About to dig into this tomorrow morning. I am also gonna run and grab some new plugs in the morning before I start. Anything else to look for/do while i am doing this job? Thanks.

Why do you waste your money on premix, all you are doing is paying for 1/2 gallon of distilled water with your coolant. Just go to the store and buy the cheapest gallon of drinking water and mix it with a gallon of straight coolant, same thing and cheaper in the long run.

FOr the $10 it's going to save me, I'd just as soon just use the premix and be done. Just me. OK, got the upper off, no worries aside from not being able to get to the front lower bolt of the throttle body with the intake in the car due to the brack that I assume is there because the intake is plastic and couldn't take the stress of the TB on its own being in the way. So I pulled the UI off with the TB attached, not that bad. ANYWAYS.... on to removing the lower intake. Few questions if anyone is online right now.... Do I have to take the pass side front engine mount off in order to remove the intake? It looks like its attached to the intake itself ( ahrd to see anything under all the dirt).
