My regal has served me well and still runs strong with 150K miles on the odo. Due to the high mileage and the age, I am thinking of getting a newer W-body as a replacement. The 3.9L V6 engine in post-2006 impala seems pretty good on paper: 240 HP which is the same output of a supercharged 3800 II. I wonder what is your opinion of this engine. Please comment on the reliability, gas mileage, ease to work on et al.

    Thanks.

Mounts are different, I'm pretty sure the bell housing on the transmission won't hook up to the LZ9. Not to mention all the PCM tuning issues and wiring headaches. Put a new L32 in there. Also...what is bad about 150K? These motors run forever.

Sorry for any confusement. I don't mean to swap the engine, but to replace my regal with a impala with 3.9L engine. I want to know some opinions on this 3.9L engine as I don't have any experience with it.

On the other hand, I agree with you that 150K miles is nothing for my car. Problem is that many little things tend to go wrong with such high mileage, which is somehow annoying. I posted last weekend, seeking for suggestion to fix the leaking elbow on the LIM.

new engines take a while before the issues are known.

We've had a couple of 3.6 high features in my shop for water pumps.

If possible, as a police department that uses them. They tend to beat the crap out of their cars.

They are ok, but get worse gas mileage. Around 25-27 freeway.

My friends mom had one and it hard some major problems. Sensor going wack and the trans blew up, so they replaced it, then the replacement blew up, then they put the SS trans in it and that worked fine after multiple week of repair and tuning, then they sold it.
