Anyone that has done or ridden in a cammed car will say cam. The real question is, what are you looking to accomplish?

Do you want a totally different engine? That's a cam, which changes timing, duration and lift.

Do you want the same thing you have now with better breathing? That's rockers, simply they open the valve further and that's all (lift).

install is pretty intensive on a cam, but its not that bad so long as you take your time and make sure youre doing it all right.

you do realize, though, that the money you'd put into your car for a cam you can do a top swap and gain a considerable amount of power. more than a cam would give you.

    That depends. Am I there?

Last night I did LIM gaskets, radiator hoses, coolant flush, prepped an LIM (got things I like to do), rockers, springs, valve seals, Plog, TB cleaning etc etc in 5 hours.

I've done an engine pull, remove all those things plus cam, clean new motor, put together and reinstall in 12 flat.

Really it all depends on what tools you are using, how accessible they are, how well you know your stuff/torque specs etc. If you stop every two minutes to look stuff up and are scraping gaskets with razors and putty knives...you are going to be slower than someone like me who has the toolbox within reach and all the 3800 stuff memorized.

Yea I hear what you guys are saying I like to do all my own work but I do have to look up certain things I'm not sure about and bio I considered doing a top swap but I don't want to blow the tranny with all the extra power

Stock transmissions are ticking time bombs once you add power and remove some TM. The only question is..how much time ya got?

Then buy a Triple Edge Transmission as your next mod if you plan on beating the snot out of it. Honestly though...I think an N/A car with 3.69's would be cool...but then there goes your MPG's.

personally I wouldnt cam a n/a 3.8 id top swap first

On a top swapped car Id say cam only due to the fact most get rockers and still want more
When i did my build I just went right to cam and have no regrets
with the tep trans and engine the build sits at around 5k

98 gtp sedan forest green ,S1X intense cam,Intense pcm,Magnaflow exhaust, ubend delete,TEP trans 3.29's,3.4 smoothflow mps,Dyno'd 281hp and 371ft #'s of trq at the wheels

i started with n/a mods, then did top swap, rockers, headers, N*. Gained more than a second at the track and 10 mph in the 1/4. Then my 4th gear went that same sumnmer, trans is still fine after beating on it the rest of the year without 4th. Bought a trans from tep with all the goodies besides single 7/8 chain. Bought an xp cam and waiting to install it, rockers are soft.

I think you should just go top swap and cam later but, thats just me.
