I am ready to start re-assembling my LIM, UIM, etc. and I am wondering if you experienced people can give me some guidance on which sealant/threadlocker to use? The GM tech manual says to use GM #12345493 which is the same as RED Loctite #272 on the LIM bolts. This is the high strength Loctite and supposedly, you would need to use heat or special tools (?) if I needed to dis-assemble in the future. It seems like this is over-kill to me? What have you used? Is it working OK?

I am planning on using BLUE Loctite #242 on the UIM bolts.

Thanks for all the guidance you all have given me over the last couple of months on this project. I would not have been able to do it otherwise.
'02 - 3.8(K) 153,000 miles, New UIM, New LIM alum. gasket, new lifters, new OEM cat. Runs great ! Owned it since new. (bought it 12 years ago with only 22 miles on the clock)

Just dont use the red threadlock on the bolts or next time you need to do any intake manifold repairs you will have an extremely hard time of breaking them loose or worse yet strip the aluminum threads in the manifold. You could also use a thread sealant as well.

I used thread sealant aka PTFE paste on mine. red loctite is way overkill.

The only time you want to use red loctite is if you never ever ever ever want to take the bolts out again. Blue loctite works well.
