Hey I was wondering if anyone has removed the hump on their stock throttle body? I've tried finding info on it but I've been unsuccesful. Has anyone done it?

i have. what do you want to know about it?
a) smooth it all out so its round how it is supposed to be
b) you will break through the casting, so be prepared with some metal epoxy.
Yeah just get it ported, or just get a northstar.
Eeeek... There's no way to not break through the casting? I was wondering if the gains of taking out the hump are actually worth it. I don't wanna get the northstar cuz I don't wanna open it up that much. Basically what I want to do so far is do basic mods at this point. I ordered a 2.5" dp with cat, overkill pcm, and made my own intake (which looks awesome by the way) haha. Do you guys know how much hp gain you can actually get from that typical setup?
You wasted money on the 2.5 dp. GO 3 " or Headers.
With being n/a and minimal mods TB work wont do much of anything except maybe improve responsiveness
Really? I would think it should do a descent amount no?
And to answer the other dude no I don't think the 2.5 is a waist of money because the rest of the stock exhaust is 2.5" so having 3" on 3 feet of your exhaust when the rest is 2.5 it does nothing. I don't know why everyone thinks the 3" is so much better. Bigger isn't always better. Some guys even think that the 2.5 is better because 3800's like some back pressure. But anyway well I guess I'll have to deal with my somewhat peppy grand prix till I can get my camaro. Haha. Wanted a 4th gen LS1 for a long time. It's so hard to find a good deal on one though.
You're right, but they do need exhaust velocity. Alucarus99gt may be wrong about why, but bigger is not always better, especially on a nearly stock L36.
Alucarus99gt, the reason you won't see that much improvement from the TB is because it's already big enough stock. Going to the N* or LS1 TB may actually hurt you, as you'd be losing velocity. As you said, bigger is not always better.
i think the 3800 has enough displacement to pressurize a 3" downpipe as effectively as it would a 2.5" downpipe. i also liked how the powerband would move up a little since we all know these cars have more low end torque then we know what to do with, even n/a.
Umm I don't believe I was wrong. I wasn't talking about the throttle body in my last post. I was just talking about the exhaust. When I mentioned the northstar I didn't want to switch to a bigger TB cuz I didn't wanna mess with tuning it and messing around with the maf. It's just too much of a hassle for me. I just wanted to take that stupid hump out. I mean some of the things they thought of on this engine I don't understand. But then again they weren't going for more power. Also on another note, every engine needs some back pressure. You can't just open everything up and expect huge hp gains. Thats what I meant about bigger isn't always better. Scooby snacks.
Oh ya and when bwolf asked about losing power if switching to Northstar. I mean I'm not an expert or even close, but most of the time I know what I'm talking and if you want to switch to something that much bigger is up to you, but honestly certain mods are questionable. I mean a stock Ls1 has a 75 mm TB. Northstar is 77mm. I mean putting a TB that big on a L36 is kinda pointless in my opinion. I might be throwing myself in a fire by saying this but oh well. If you're going to do big mods like a cam or heads on a v6, honestly you might as well get a V8. Sorry just an opinion. Don't freak out people.
lets see this custom intake???
That's exactly what I was talking about. Exhaust backpressure is bad, universally. Backpressure will never help an engine and every engine does NOT need backpressure. What is important is exhaust velocity, which is lost when going to a larger setup.
Hold on there, taking the hump out will require tuning as well. Remember, the MAF is mounted in the TB on these engines, so any change to the TB will change how the MAF reads, requiring tuning.
Well whatever! You know what I meant. Hahaha. And Ya you're right about the TB. Haha. Didn't even think about that. See thats something I would have thought about right as I'm putting it back on the car. Haha.
