Heres the update,got a call from the dealer they did a pressure test on the cooling system found all to be fine,they said they also added a dye to the coolant to see if any leaks in the next week and for me to periodically check the coolant level,if i see its continue to lose fluid to bring the car back.Igot till the middle of march b4 the exchange period runs out as soon i see any more fluid loss its going back and requesting a exchange.As for the sweet smell from the exhaust they have no comments on that.Also ask why the coolant level was low from the start they said it may have been a airlock?,Im not buying that.
Be ever mindful of checking the coolant level and checking for leaks and be persistent.
When i was a the dealership today,checking out some Impalas and GP,when i checked under the hoods i notice that all cars have the same coolant level that way below the cold fill line,meaning there levels and mine were even with the return line to the rad.It that the normal level for dexcool or im just thinking old school that the levels should be up to the cold fill line?.
Im sure someone will correct me if I am wrong. But the overflow bottle is just that. It can only receive overflow from the radiator, not put it back in, as far as I know. I could be wrong on that so dont take it as gospel.
I have seen my level fluctuate.....it is well up when it is warm, and then when it is cold..I do believe that it can go back into the system when the cap opens..it will create a suction.and pull it back in.

Well since i got the car home only one day,was out cleaning the driveway of snow noticed a few spots of antifreeze but the color is green not orange it may be the dye that the dealer put in also in the recovery bottle the level is down to half way.Will get my mechanic other than the dealers to see if he got a blacklight to confirm leaks b4 taken car back.Again thanks to all for your advise and opinions,What a great site.
I couldn't see the cold fill line and overfilled my overflow bottle once. I was sure my car was leaking coolant, but it was only pushing out the excess coolant out when it heated up and expanded. It was coming out the overfill drain tube on the firewall side of the coolant bottle.
(btw, since the only place you are supposed to add coolant is the overflow bottle it has to be a two-way operation)
Ive never used the coolant bottle to add coolant. Ive always let it cool down and popped the radiator cap and added coolant there. Even on my previous GP.
Is it bad to fill at the cap? Just curious why its recomended not to. I usually add to the overflow, but like today when I had to top it off because I lost some due to removing parts I filled at the cap.
It's not bad necessarily....but you don't open the coolant system up to contaminants that way.
And my input also, it's a two way deal. It takes the overflow, but as the engine cools down, it will suck the coolant back into the system.
^^ If he says its two way, then I believe it and so therefore I was incorrect (read: wrong) in my previous statement concerning that.
But I am curious about the contamination statement however. Why would there be any less risk of contamination filling in the overflow than at the radiator cap?
