Well first i am new, Post number 1!a

Anyways i have a 99 grand prix gt and it has an exhaust leak on the rear manifold against the firewall. i am not sure what is leaking and its hard to pinpoint. the exhaust did fall off the hanger about a month ago and made the leak worse. with that said what do you think the problem is?

i went to an exhaust shop and they said it was the manifold and i need a new one, therefore they have to replace the whole exhaust for 1100 plus tax.

well thanks for any help. need to get this fixed i am moving in a month to florida from indiana

$1,100...you gotta be kidding me...just get a rear manifold from here Morad Parts Company - 3800 Motors, Transaxles, & Stock Parts

Some Penetrating oil, a torch, some extra crossover bolts, upper dp gasket and manifold to head gasket, a free day, some blood, and tears and you can have it done yourself for close to nothing . You should take at the exhaust, look for yourself and see where exactly the leak is coming from before you do anything.

thats what im not sure of, where do they normally leak from, or should i look at first. i checked all the bolts they are tight. to me its sounds like its coming from the collecter if thats what its called. looks like it has flex pipe in it. but everything seems to be in order and fine. its hard to pinpoint

Yeah for christs sake...you can get headers and an entire exhaust system for less than that. If you think it is the gaskets...then go to the auto parts store and get a manifold to downpipe gasket and a downpipe to catback gasket...now if your manny is cracked then you have to replace it...

Easy way to tell exactly where it is from...have someone rev the car while you are under it and put your hand by the exhaust (when it is cold) and feel for escaping air. Those gaskets shouldn't run you more than 10 bucks or so with tax...and if your in there...get a bottle of red RTV and put some on the gaskets when you install them...let it cure overnight...and no more leaks for sure then

i am trying to get out of here, i just lost my job again. so i am getting out of here while i still got some money in the bank. thinking of moving to clearwater so i can go to school downthere after i get on my feet. if i can only get a job things would be awesome.

as far as the leak goes. its not going to be an easy fix since everything is so tight back there. i think tomarrow i am going to be feeling her up and try to find where she is blowing from. hopefully its not a manifold but if it is i can get one for free. My friends grandma ownes a junkyard..

but at least i have a better idea where to start now and how to go about it..but if anyone has any other ideas glad to hear them

If your only looking for the flex to have it replaced Autozone sells them, take that and your car to a local muffler shop and have them weld it in.

Yup...or cut the flex out. Not like you really need it anyway.

Another crack could form if he went without the flex.

Get a flex section and have it welded back up.

well if i go with the complete dp, then i have to get the o2 plug and its 100 bucks. they also sell just the mesh for like 15 plus ship. i think i am just going to go that route i have to get a glass pack cause the res is completely gutted. it fell off when i cut the dp off.
