Thread: Power Steering whine

For the last year I have been experiencing a whine from the power steering pump. This past summer I replaced both the pump (2 times) and rack trying to get rid of it. It will not whine at idle, but as soon as there is a load on the motor it begins to whine. I have bled it using the methods I have seen on this forum, and what's available on youtube (lock to lock and vacuum). Can anyone give me anymore suggestions I can try?

every "reman" P.S. pump I have installed on my GTP (three of them) made a whine, it was only when I went with a brand new pump that the whine finally went away. During my last PS rack install, I also installed a new PS pump made
by EDELMAN, part number PLE 6055R, from RA, that I finally had quiet steering. The only reason I changed the rack at that time was because it leaked from the inner tie rod end boot, and the input shaft seal.

Notes:
Make sure your "whine" is actually the ps pump.
Flush old fluid both return and pressure lines, and make sure there are no restrictions or leaks from the hoses,
or better yet, install new pressure line and new return lines.
Fill with "POWER STEERING FLUID"
Cold bleed the air from the system before first start, do this by turning wheel lock to lock slowly with the
front wheels in the air about ten times, (engine off) after filling pump with fluid, refill pump as needed, then start engine and do the same procedure
with no weight on the front wheels until bubbles in reservoir are mostly gone, shut off engine and lower car onto ground and wait ten min. for bubbles to purge from fluid, then go for test drive.

Thanks, the pumps I put on it were all reman's from Oreilly's . I will order a new one from RA, and try it again.

Update: I installed a new pump from RockAuto, and the whine is almost entirely gone.
