'04 GP with 252k on the clock. I have to admit I am completely stumped by an engine squeal I cannot seem to kick. So earlier this year in January I developed an engine squeal that I attributed to bad alternator bearings. The pulley on the alternator would turn but it made a bit of noise so it would have appeared to be bad bearings. This was the 2nd alternator on the care with about 100k on it reman Acdelco, previously replaced the factory @ 140k. Replaced it reman Acdelco and it was fine for a few days a different squeal came back which was attributed to the belt. I always use the gatorback belts and the one I had on there had some miles on it. Replaced it with an Autozone brand. That didn't last long but was the closest available. Replaced with gatorback and no problems. I have replaced the tensioner with a Doorman in 2015.
Just a few days ago another squeal came up. Figured it might have been belt, but it would squeal at any speed and RPM. Felt the alternator pulley and got a chirp from it. Replaced it (Duralast) and the tensioner pulley as the metal washer was damaged on it. It went away, and low and behold I have another belt squeal, which I'm planning on replacing shortly, but I'm at a loss as this gatorback was purchased in March.
Question is, with these problems is there something I'm doing wrong or is it possibly a mis-aligned tensioner, or something else I'm not thinking about. I'm not quite sure why I seem to be having alternator bearing issues and then once replaced I need to replace the belt along with it. No idea if its coincidence or not, but I'm stumped as to why I keep having issues.
