a little back story i have done the top swap before. my wife had a 97 Gt 2 dr that we top swap but had to scrap the car. i saved all the components for the top swap. We found her a 08 4dr that she is is over the moon for. and as we was getting ready to sign the loan docs she leans over to me when the guy left the room as asked if we could supercharge it like the last one. of course i said we should. not i know i know the series 2 and 3 are really similar. but whats stopping me. im worried bout the throttle bodies since this is drive by wire vs cable.

There is no tuning support for the series 3 3800 in the 2008 grand prix, therefore it cannot be topswapped

The computer is what will stop you, like SGT said there is no tuning support for the 2008 computer. It is a year only computer that went to CAN BUS style and the pontiac brand was axed the following year. Currently no tuning software allows for changing the stock calibration and as far as I know, nobody will be making it supported anytime soon.

If you want the 5.3 then I'd just sell it and get the GXP. Then save for a new trans and a tune to get rid of the DOD junk.

    Fixed.
And no, your best bet would be to get an 07 or older GP. You would need more than just the engine to do a 5.3 swap.

You'd still be waste deep in this swap with some things to figure out. The PCM and wiring harness are all different for the V8, the BCM is going to be different as well. Other features like tapshift, DIC controls are specific to the GXP. Subframe, transmission, axles and all that jazz would be needed.

Like said you are far better off buying a GXP from the get go that trying to make a GXP from scratch.

Drive it till the wheels fall off and leave it alone.

50~ horsepower isn't worth the headache either way you go.
