I've got the 3.1 in my Lummie and I know Reptile has one in his Corsica. Great engine IMO!
I watched this show one time, kinda like Junkyard Wars, where two teams had to build a sand rail out of scrap parts and then compete head to head at the end. One team used a 3.1 in theirs and did probably the weirdest thing I had ever seen. They could not get the fuel injection figured out, so they cut a hole in the top of the big flat intake on top and bolted down a carbureator to it. I remember turning to the wife and saying, "? That will never run." I'll be damned if it didn't fire right up and ran like a bat outta hell. Beat they other team hands down as I recall.
As did I have a 3.1L. GREAT car. Had ~208K on it when I sold it, and as far as I know the only thing the lady I sold it to had to change was the starter not long afterwards.
They are good little engines. Mine ran for a 15 min warm up and 2 mile drive with out oil. I then rebuilt it two two summers ago.
my snow car is a 99 with a 3.1. it serves its purpose
I had a sunbird with one, and loved it, had enough power to play with the mustangs
I have a '95 Pontiac Grand Prix se coupe with the 3100 v6 it has 160,000 miles on it and going strong
My 92 has almost 300k and i play with stangs every other weekend and out run a few
i got a 01 gpse this summer and its been running great! my mechanic tells me it will last me as long as i need it too as long as i dont drive the piss out of it
had a 88 z24 cavalier convertible with a 2.8, i swapped a 3.1 in it, and brought it to life, trans must have been low geared bcuz from 0 to 30 i used to make corvettes floor it lol! also have a 95 se 3100 the car says 299420 but its too clean underneath and i kno the engine been changed b4 i got it, i just pulled it out tonight to rebuild it, it had a knock. havent tore into it yet, tomorrow. i got another crank and sum piston and rods, i did a head job when my timming bent a valve and i saw a chipped piston, never was a problem after i put it together, just the knock, i assume is a rod.
piston slap?!?..............
