Thread: intake manifold gasket sets

All the 3100s I've done the pushrods go though the gaskets, not sure what they mean by "guides". Maybe inquire at a dealership(have vin # ready). you could "Price" the set there and just ask if the kit comes with guides. If they say yes, then get the one with guides. although, like I said, all the kits I put on it was just the two large peices that go along the heads, 2 little rubber peices for the vally, and rtv for the corners.

The last Fel-Pro set I got had no valve cover gaskets in it. Had to order them seperately. Kinda strange.

Agreed. One of the tortures of the dirtyonehundred is you gotta pull rockers to get the uneven length pushrods out (hopefully you know this in advance and keep track of where they belong) of the gasket.

not if you have a push rod removal tool. With my luck, I didn't even know the tool existed until after I did the job.

that rocker tool saves you a ton of time and hassel with torquing the rockers back down.well worth the money.see my other posts about the intakes on these.

I'm not sure about the engineering/physics behind it, but all it really does is pry against the rocker arm enough to leave space to slide each push rod out (yes without loosening the rocker). For rods with more pressure, just pull harder I guess haha, Ive never had an issue with it. With that tool, you can get all the push rods out literally within a minute or two. Going back in is just as easy, but sometimes you have to fight with the push rod a little for it to seat. Regardless, saves sooooo much time compared to loosening up each individual rocker arm.

Then again, if you just stick with the 3800 motor, you don't have to worry about that step.

I have tore down a 3100 three times to replace LIM gaskets among other parts and the ones that were on mine had pushrod guides. For the record the "tool" mentioned above is a breeze to use. Biggest advantage is that you don't have to loosen the rockers, which can sometimes lead to a rocker bolt being stripped in head!

Not very tight at all! I actually had replaced the head already, so I used the old one to practice on because someone had told me to be carefull not to strip them out (and of course, I wanted to see if they were correct). I did not think it would be so close to the torque measurement, but one did actually strip out before the torque wrench even clicked off and one just after the click off. After that I was very aware of tightening them down on the engine!

im going to give you some heads up do not torque the intake bolts near 16lbs autozone said to and it crack my upper and lower intake pieces and had to but the upper part and it cracked again but luckely its still running good,but just be careful and the ones at autozone the felpros are good and i bought a torque wrench and rtv and the gaskets and i used a pair of pliers to pull the rockers down and somebody pulled the rod out while i held it,good luck and be careful
