Start by replacing it...the seals tend to go back and make the EVAP system pissed off.
^X2
mine had that code, was something like "small evap leak detected", took the cap off and the seal was cracked and dry rotted, replaced the cap and the code went away
If not, go yank a bunch of EVAP canisters from the junkyard off any 3100/3400...pretty sure they are the same.
Can you say to me where it is located this EVAP CANISTER on my Grand-Prix 1998?
Thanks
Michel
I believe you need to remove the rear drivers side wheel and some other junk up there to get access to it. Don't quote me on that, I've never touched the EVAP system on my Poontiac. This is just hearsay and conjecture
my gp has the po442 code and is leaking coolant very slowly from the right side of my intake manifold by the throttle body. i am already planning on replacing the gasket and manifold but just wondering if this could be why the codes on. ive hear the code could be be a "vacuum leak at engine". would this be considered a "vacuum leak"?
Don't even touch the evap until you replace the gas cap, disconnect the negative to reset the computer and see if your code returns, then if you do end up messing with the evap, on my grand am with a 3100 "which may or may not be set up the same as your grand prix" my evap canister is down low behind the front bumper on the drivers side near the fog light.
