Been trying to figure my coolant issue with my ride. Replaced thermostat, bled system according to others posts with the exception of removing the knock sensor. When the knock sensor was removed no coolant escaped. Should there be coolant present when removed? The hole is clean. I have bled the top end with success of finding plenty of air. When AC is running car runs cool, when driving around town it creeps up past 100 a fair amount then drops. Up hills it rises then drops down hill. any feedback greatly appreciated.

how many miles on your car? this is sometimes the warning of intake gaskets going bad. otherwiise the car will normally go higher then will come down to operating temp. when the ac is on the fans run all the time so the temp stays at operating temp. the 100 part is thowin me off because my operatinf temp on mine is 195f it will go higher and come down if no ac is on, fans usually come on around 224f .

Thanks for the feedback Mike. My car has 170,000km and runs and rides like new. It has been taken care of from previous owner. My gauge is reading Celsius and mid point is 100 and at the top in RED is 125. Rather confusing to me too cuz I'm ignorant old school boy never learned the metric crap earlier when introduced. The thermostat was changed to what was in it a 195F. Since last post i went for a long road trip with many high mountain passes and when climbing these suckers my temp was running hot, half way between the 100 and the high mark of 125. My last 20km hill I pulled over cuz I wasn't feeling good running this hot. Crawled under car and found my rad was banged up pretty good from a bird and many small rocks/dirt stuck in cooling fins. Cleaned and straightened out as many fins as possible and it helped. Once at destination ran a garden hose through rad to clean up. On route home the car ran far cooler but still climbs up past the half way(100), then drops fast. Now my rad is in need of replacement, I found a repair job eliminating a few cores had been done before I owned it. So this being said it could very well be my problem. Hopefully this will clear up the problem of my tranny kicking outa OD when engine warms up down the highway. I discussed this with a tranny guru and was told it was very likely my problem with the cooling system. It not cooling down fast enough for the PCM signal to enable lockup. Hmmmmm, we'll see about that. I'm sure counting on his theory! LOL, thanks agin. Oh yeah, I have never seen both my fans run while sitting at idle, does the secondary fan only cut in while driving with AC ON ?
