Looking for opinions on if it will be easier to remove the exhaust manifold from the head, or the pipe from the exhaust manifold.

I am trying to replace the head gaskets, and I am one step away from getting to the rear gasket (front head is already off). I am worried about breaking off bolts and being totally screwed. So, do you think it would be easier to remove the exhaust manifold, or the pipe that attaches to the exhaust manifold, so I can replace the head gasket?

I know both will be rusted, and I have PB blaster ready to go.

    Thanks for your help.

OK, I removed the six rear exhaust manifold nuts, but the head is not separating from the manifold. Do I just need to tap it gently to loosen up the seal, or have I missed a bolt somewhere?

Try loosening up the from mounts...to let the engine rock forward and back...that should break her loose.

What kind of car do you have?
Some are harder than others. But usually, regardless, you have to remove the exhaust manifold.
