What are some good mods for the 3100 that are also cheap?
you could swap out your top end to one from a '00 and up 3400. It could be done fairly cheap depending how the j/ys are near you. There are write ups somewhere on how to do this. you could make a FWI and that might get you a few hp.
Ya I am going to make an intake for it in the summer that goes in front of the radiator and behind the grill. I have a really cool idea for it. I think I will get PVC and a Y piece do one cone filter in the engine bay and the other in behind the grill with one of those electric superchargers to help push some air. I think that might be cool.
I'd be careful with those electric superchargers..I've never heard anything but bad things ablout them. they wont warrant any real gains, and I have heard of them cathcing fire..just a little fyi
Yeah, those electric superchargers are worthless. They use electric power from your alternator. To turn your alternator uses horsepower. So you don't gain anything, and auctually lose power. So I would skip the electric supercharger.
Also, when making your intake, try to route it so you have as little pipe and as little bends as possible. Mine goes from my engine, through a 22.5° bend, an 18" piece of pipe to the filter. Short, one small bend, and very unrestrictive. The more bends, or the more length of pipe you use, the harder it is for the engine to pull the air through, and the more horsepower you lose. Stay simple.
Ya I was going to use the electric supercharger on the second tube. The first one will get air too. So I think it would work good for what I want it to do. Just helping the air from the second air intake to help push it do to it being where it is and with the bends. The first intake part I have not decided where to put it.
So that it the plan and it is subject to change
I believe 60degV6.com is the website that has a lot of info on these engines and there is a lot of info about swapping the 3400 parts, intakes, exhaust manifolds, 96+ OBD2 wiring and pcm swaps, etc. I checked into some of that a few years ago when I thought of toying the the 3100 in our second 95 but scrapped the idea for numorous reasons.
I just hope you don't waste your money on the electric supercharger is all. Read what I wrote above and consider it. They are junk. And the best flowing intake is the one with the least tubing length and the least bends. Filter location won't made a bad intake design great. Stick with simple, because that is what flows the best.
Thats way I was going to do a y pipe so one filter in in an simple spot and the other is some where else in behind the grill. I was thinking about a electric supercharger just to help get air up from where it is.
But as I said before all plans are subject to change. First I have to get my brake fixed find out whats making my car over heat again and so on so I won't be doing this any time soon.
Alright, somebodies got to say it... Thats one of the worst idea's ever. Not only getting an electric fan in your intake but making it split into a Y and 2 filters? Not only will people laugh, you will have no performance gain. Like they said, make a less restrictive intake, swap out parts from a 3400...
Besides, your more likely to see the electric fan blow air out your other filter than in your intake...
I doubt I will do it because my car is so screwed up right now. Over heating messed up brakes half the gauges don't work right battery and alternator issues.
If I run the intake to the grill will it be too long and make it harder to get air to the TB being that is is longer. Why won't I have any gains tho? I would still have a simple set up and then the other would help push a little more from the front. Just wondering Its just one of those ideas ya know.
I think it is best if you read up a little. ZZP has some tech articles that have some good into in the. While I don't agree with everything they say in the first, the second has some great info about intakes and what flows better. The only part that I am pointing out in the first article is about the electric superchargers.
I am new to the forum and I had a question: If i put an air intake, taking out the box, would i have to remove the AFM sensor as well? because this would mean that I cant pass the inspections and the check engine light will be on.
Do what people with hona civics do and putsticker on it I think a gReddy sticker ads like 250 HP lol I have a 1995 se 2 door all I did wa straight piped it and built an intake and it adde some and I sounds amazing
Or do what this guy did ^^^^^and bump a 4 year old thread
Yeah four years old.
Bye.
