It's not holding in nor clicking when I press it. I can hold it in manually but just comes out when I let go. The light still comes on. Is that a whole shifter knob replacement or more than that? Thanks!

they don't "click" or "hold in" ....look at the DIC , it should say performance shift if it is engaged.

they do on a regal, if it dont stay in its not on. ( you have to look real close to even tell if its in or out) our switch is on the side of the shiftier knob, ive only seen pics but the knob and switch come off together, not sure if you can take it out to change it or just swap the knob.

eBay has some shifters with the performance shift button if you need to replace yours.

I have a 97 gtp and the button "clicks" in when pressed. You can probably hit up a junk yard and get a shifter knob pretty easily.

Yep on my 99 it softly clicks but the button doesn't stay in or out, its a "tap once to toggle" configuration for lack of a better word. I don't think the OP has an actual issue, unless the perf shift indicator lamp can't be made to stay on.
All Grand Prix, all the time. 69 Model J, 99 GT & GTP coupes. All junk, haha.
