I just bought this car (1998 Grand Prix GT) and i have only driven it maybe 30 miles and the problem i am having is that when i put the car in (D) it will not go its like its in neutral, but if it is in (1) or (2) it will go and i can just shift up from 1 to 2 to 3 to D and it will be fine just when i get to the next stop i have to do it all over again. I have read thru some of the threads and never saw anything quite like what im experiencing, and I would really like to know if there is a fix or what i should look into? I haven't driven it on the freeway it seems alot of people have issues with 4th/OD. And also alot of the threads say message dave or someone on here so i don't know who that is or anything so any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks alot guys!

Sounds like the forward band is broken which unfortunately means the trans needs rebuilt/replaced.

    TEP's description http://www.tripleedgeperformance.com...or-3-only.html

They also sell the best rebuilt transmissions you can buy, of course that would mean you would have to receive it from a shipping truck and install it yourself, or arrange for it to be replaced at a shop.

    More info on that http://www.tripleedgeperformance.com...smissions.html
First two on the left side would be your options from them.

Other option is to have it rebuilt at a reputable transmission shop locally. I'm sure you won't be able to find one who knows as much about the 4t65e as TEP does.

OK so TEP sells them with the "weak points" fixed right? I mean i have heard of one of the gears that aren't hardened till after a certain year... also i just want to know if i spend the 1500 on a trans that its going to have the "weak points" fixed. I don't know a lot about these transmissions, so all help is appreciated. and also how do i know what trans to get there is the standard or basix standard, how do i choose them they sound the same to me...

Send us an email, we can answer any questions you have and help you decide which one will work best for you. All of our builds are built for your car, if you are stock then we would build it for a stock car, if you have mods or going to add mods down the road then we have a different build for that.
