Got my new trans in about a week and a half ago... finally have been driving it a little for the last two days and it feels great. Shifts feel firmer but not as violent as they did before with my old trans. My 3000 stall feels a little weird but it could also just be my imagination... .

With my new tranny cooler mounted in a different location my trans temps stay fairly low compared to my engine temps. Its colder outside now but if heat ever gets out of hand in the summer Ill install a small high flow fan? Or upgrade to a bigger cooler? What do you think Trannyman?

Glad to hear its together and work good for you! On the cooler you will just have to wait and see but you should be in good shape.

Car is running good... Im just slowly disliking my new gearing and/or 3000 stall more and more. Ive customized the settings a bit but overall Im somewhat dissapointed with the stall speed. It defintely stalls higher then the previous 2500 stall I had.

Any of you guys have any tranny settings for a 3.29 geared transmission with a 3000 stall? Ive sent my 3.69 geared bin file to like 10 people on this forum... where are your good 3.29 files!? Im slowly customizing but Ide like to see if there is something Im missing. I have a Powrtuner...

tengis, did u also increase your tcc min apply setting? i am using a dhp but it doesnt have the table for the tcc min apply increase that is needed for cruise so i had to have another member do it for me. im also using 3.29s and i used an L36 from a grand prix gt as a mock-up.

off topic-im also using trannyman's tranny and its holding up great!!

Transmission is nice and smooth, just feels like its slipping because of the torque converter and sometimes my shift points feel strange because of it as well.

again i think you need to have the tcc min apply increased from stock. mine was set up with 20% increase and while cruising on the freeway at like 65-70mph my RPMs would be at like 2700-2800RPMs then i did a reflash with 50% increase and now the RPMs at like 2200RPMs.

i dont know which tuner u're using but i am using a DHP and if u want to take a look at my bin file let me know and i'l e-mail u what i got(not my current bin since its in my laptop) in regards to the shift points and such

A looser converter will definately make the trans feel different, especially when the boost comes up with a looser converter. Most of the time you wont even see the tach move and will just feel a slight bump. You feel a lot more of the engine pulling and the shift firmness with a lower stall speed especially during in town driving. Going from 3.69s down to 3.29s is a pretty good jump also and Im sure that is half of what you arent used to yet and a looser converter on top of it probably makes the car a bit lazy in town compared to your old setup

I changed around some tranny settings and it feels better. I think this converter is closer to a 3200ish then a 3000 stall. *shrug*

Crossing my fingers that this trans lasts a year or two! Trannyman - any frequent rebuilder discounts? lol.

Haha well "knock on wood" you do qualify for the refresh as long as you dont have the hardpart scenario you ran into last time! This is something I started to offer guys like you who already have a built trans that just needs freshened now and then. Yes it is a lot of work to pull the trans and ship it off but is just something to be expected with a build such as yours.

When you make high HP the trans is going to wear faster and that is life no matter what car you own. The chains stretch sooner and clutches wear. Any sub 12 second car owner needs to consider this. Nobody mentions this and a lot of people think you just buy a performance transmission and it is supposed to last forever regardless the environment but things wear faster with higher power levels and a "Refresh" is a service I offer to go back through an already built trans to do just that-freshen it up. It is NOT a complete rebuild and assumes the trans already has all the parts replaced that should have been during the initial rebuild so soft parts get replaced and that is it unless hard parts are found worn or broken and then it gets more expensive but again that is just part of making high HP levels and should never be overlooked.

Not something a low 13s high 12s person should be concerned with, right?

That bracket is much more tolerent to added power. The guys making high 11 second power or faster, Especially turbo guys!, put down a lot more HP and it puts a tremendous amount of stress on everything no matter what parts are used. Street tires give a lot of cushion and will take a lot of the shock off of the trans at least through the first gear or two!

After driving around a while I feel like Ive gotten use to the stall but it still feels weird sometimes. On a much more exciting note - I put 250 miles on the tranny so far and started messing with the boost a little this morning. Turned my boost up to 10-12psi or so...

My first gear is actually SOMEWHAT usefull with 3.29s and the car feels MUCH stronger in second then it did with 3.69s. My alignment isnt very good right now so Im holding off on doing anything high speed but going from a third to second gear downshift feels a LOT better.

Cant wait to get some times. I might just try to go for some high trap speeds and keep my slicks in the garage - just being cautious.

What do you think about programming the "performance shift" button to downshift from 4th to 3rd to avoid manually shifting for highway runs? Any reason this would be a bad thing? It fairly easily doable in the PCM.

Looks good, I would double up those hose clamps though, tranny fluid spraying out while you are driving is never good

You can tune to make it do whatever you want and is going to just depend what you want to do. There isnt anything harsh going on inside when you do a 4-3 high speed downshift.
