Ok, I'm new to the whole newer body style GP's (I've have 93-96's) and I love the car. But I'm having a few little issues with it, it has the 3.8 series 2 engine with 170,900 miles on it. I've had the car for about a week (it was a 18th birthday gift) and now I'm having some transmission problems. It was fine till I merged onto the highway going to work, I noticed that it kicked down, and when it did it slammed down. I didn't think anything of it, but I stopped at a stop light, I took off and I felt it slip between 1st and 2en. I freaked out and pulled over and checked the fluid and it was over filled. So, I got it towed home and I drained about 2 quarts out of it and it will in the normal range now. But its still slipping some, and when it doesn't slip it will hold the gear till about 3,500-4,000 RPM's then shift.

The thing that stumps me is If I get on it some it will not slip nor hold gear then slam into the next gear. It is really weird...Also it only does it when it's warmed up. any help is thanked!! oh, I do not have a check engine light!!! I had it checked also, I don't have any pending codes either.

thanks for any help!! This car is my pride and joy(its my 1st car to)...

So after you drained the 2 quarts out I assume you checked it while the trans was fully hot, in Park, engine running on a level surface? If not it would show a wierd reading on the dipstick. You won't get a check engine light for the trans. It stores it's codes. You're best bet would be to check the fluid level again and then drive it to a trans shop and have them scan it for codes with the car still running (shutting it off will often clear out any codes for the trans.).

Also check the main wire connection that is on the top edge of the trans for corrosion and make sure it's tightly connected. The hard shift may be setting a P1181 max adapt shift which can be dealt with in a few ways if that is the case.
