Hi there,
2000 Grand Prix GT, 135000 kms. Has been rock solid since I got it at 110000km.
It has been really cold here lately. -40 or so. While driving home the other night, some soda got dumped into the shifter. I thought nothing of it, but after the car sat in the cold for a while, I tried to move it, and couldn't get it to shift out of park. After about 25 minutes, the interior warmed up, and the shifter worked again. I have disassembled the shifter trim so I can see the mechanism. I have sprayed it with WD40 like crazy to try and remove any of the moisture or sugar from the spilled soda. No change.
Using the 'shift lock override' slot did not work.
I can hear the solenoid at the brake pedal clicking, and I have dismantled the shifter trim and can see the solenoid pin in the shifter assembly. Both appear to be working.
So if the shift lock solenoid is not preventing shift out of park, what could cause this issue?
I've seen other comments regarding a possible short in the plug assembly in the shifter, or broken wires. Any other ideas or experience out there that could help me out?
Keep in mind its still bloody cold here, so anything I try needs be short and sweet!
Thanks for your help.
