So, I'm about to start tinkering on the 01 GP again. Its been sitting a while, so I'm going to be rusty on it, for sure.

Anywho. its an 01, that I blew the intake gaskets on, rebuilt the heads, and blew again along with the trans. So, I've got to rebuild it all. I'm planning on going with a re-ring kit, build from the bottom up. Maybe a little cam, who knows. Before I quit working on it, I picked up a junkyard trans, and the connector on the side broke. Its pretty near impossible to line up all those pins and get the connector back in, so I'll just swap it over from the old tranny. That being said, would i have to pull the side cover off, and put it on from the inside?

Also, is this trans from the donor car going to be copacetic with my cars original computer? Will it learn the new trans?

I'm super stoked to get this car back. I own a 04 GTO now, and its an AWESOME toy. I just miss the mpg's i got after the rebuild on the GP. Seeing 25/27 average on a fresh top end was sweet. Either way, its better around the city. And It'll give me another car to dd than the goat.

    thanks guys!

oh, and sorry if this is a "search answered" post.. It's been a while and I cant seem to find the search button...

yes you can pull the side cover, and remove the Trans harness.

as long as you picked up a 98-02 Trans for a GT you will be fine

Yep, it was actually an 01 GP GT. So, thats good. I'll drop the cradle this weekend, and start yanking the cover off.
    Thanks!
