I am just getting ready for my 2002 Gs to grenade its transmission one day. So here is my question.

If I get a transmission from a Grand Prix GT per say they have 3.29's. If I swap my regal diff/shaft/cover to it will it make it a 2.93? Or a 3.29 with hd diff? Does the drive chain have a say here?

Yes the drive chain is the factor that makes/breaks your swap.

In the HD trans the drive and driven gears are 33/37, in the non hd they are 35/35.

If you put the HD diff (3.29) into a non hd trans, you get 3.29. Only way to get 2.93 is to use the HD drive/driven gears. Which.. if you picked up a set of channel plate gaskets, it's easy and fast to pop them in and check/change the chains at the same time.

To stay 2.93, I'd suggest either making a JY trip and scavenging the gearset or have the new trans waiting and when yours goes bad, flip the set in with fresh chains and smile. Plus.. some of us know what you do for work... this is quick and easy. Plus you can also flip a fresh pcs in and never worry.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

    What about the Regal LS's? Aren't they a 3.05? Would a diff swap make them a 3.29?

Yes..based on what I wrote.. a non hd Regal LS with any gear ratio plus an HD diff will become 3.29
