2008 GXP (stock)
Had an extended warranty, 75k on the clock.
Noticed trans fluid on the ground in my driveway, looked for a leak under the car and couldnt pinpoint the leak. The way my job is, its really hard to take off so i kept adding trans fluid once a week, about a qt. Turns out the brass fittings for the trans cooler lines were leaking. They werent covered under warranty.. go figure...... paid for it, turns out it messed something up inside the trans.. here we go.
Wont move from a dead stop in "D"
takes two seconds to switch from "P, R, or N" to "D"
I have to use "M" to get going.
Under light throttle, (almost as if i was feathering the gas on a manual trans to get going) its fine, any more throttle than that it slips and i get a shaking feeling. thats ONLY in 1st. I usually shift into 2nd at 10-12 mph to avoid further damage.
2nd-4th are fine, no hard shifts or anything, just LIGHT slippage at WOT only. also "D" works fine once im moving. downshifts, upshifts etc.
Just from reading and whatnot I see that the 6's and the 8's have the same tranny just about, gear ratios are different though. (keep in mind im posting this for info to help, so if im wrong, please correct me, thanks)
My plan is to buy a Non-HD trans, put it in, buy a stage 1 upgrade kit and rebuild my current HD trans and swap it back in. its my only car so I'm trying to get all the info I can before tearing it down. would this work? bolt patterns for the different trannys the same or do i need a conversion kit to mount it up. I would rather buy another HD trans to avoid this but that will take longer and i cant afford to have the car not runnning at all unexpectedly.. the NonHD trans is available and relatively cheap..
on the brighter side.... it may just be my TQ converter, hard to explain this to you all but going by how the 1st gear acts, not always shaking, just under heavy load, I believe that if I can replace that, and test drive it, then it may fix my problem. obviously this is the first option, and also the easiest. Im just asking about the trans swap ahead of time to get answers and results while i try the converter replacement.
complicated I know, Im used to having a car with more information about it...smh
wonderful car when its not broken, looks like GM took a swing in the dark when the made it though..
