Thread: Tranny leak fixed!

After 2 years of have a slight tranny fluid leak, I finally got it fixed. Started leaking while my mother had the car so when she turned it over to me I wanted it fixed...

The side cover gasket was at fault, so $65 for the gasket (my dads cost at the dealership he works at) and $450 for labor at our buddies shop (where as the dealer wanted $1200) and the leak is finally gone... it's a great piece of mind not having to worry about a few drops of fluid everywhere I park...

Nice. That's kind of a "while you're there" kind of thing to replace parts that are right there once the side cover is off.

$450 labor? Damn.

Not bad for labor, considering it's 3/4 of the way to pulling a trans and then doing some work on it.

Yea.. it took 5.9 hours... pretty much that whole driver side components had to come out... wheel, brakes, suspension, I beleive the axle shaft... all I know is it was a lot to get to and something I didn't want to tackle myself

Brakes and suspension don't need touched other than the ball joint

Pop the bj, suspend, drop the cradle.. let it down and do it

Chilton says 4.5 hours. I'm looking at the written procedures with diagrams, it's a long page.

To take it apart, "rebuild" the valvebody and put everything back together?
It shows 7.2 hrs to remove the pump rebuild it and reinstall.
The valvebody is a lot more detailed than the pump is.

Either way he got charged to much just to change the side cover gasket.

Ehh... it was worth it to me... for it to last 135,xxx miles and have that piece of mind and part fixed to last another hopeful 135k miles... $450 wasn't that bad considering it's the only thing ive had to do to the car in the past 2 years... car is otherwise in immaculate shape as my parents took extreme care of it, every maintenance/repairs kept up on and garage kept.. so I'm gonna drive it until the wheels fall off since its my daily driver while my SS stays in the garage..

Hopefully something in the trans doesn't go soon and it being a waste since it would have been done at a transmission rebuild. Anyway I know what you mean, you wanted it done and you weren't going to do it yourself. There is a bit of work to be done. I mean it would really suck if lets say..the 4th gear shaft goes and you loose 4th, which is very common at that mileage. They would have to tear it right back down to where it just was to replace it.

I'm hoping so too haha.. don't jinx me man!... I'll tell you one thing though, these cars are tanks... if properly cared for... I get more compliments for my GP then I do my SS lol... "what year is that thing? What color is that? Looks clean man!"

But day two of driving and so far no leaking, so looks like I can be worry free for a while.. I'm still going to check from time to time.. everyone hates to have leaks and I'm sure they check once they get it fixed as well...
