    I have just the regular 3.8 in my '05 GP GT2

    I know its a matter of time before something happens with the trannies in these - wanted to get some input on possibly how close I am to the end

    I have 101K miles on the odo right now.

    For the most part when starting out nothing much happens - occasionally a 1-2 slip but usually ok.

    As the temp rises (per the DIC) thats when the fun starts. Over 175F degrees and the 1-2 bang happens under moderate acceleration. Once the tranny goes above 205F (ie, stop and go traffic) I can get bangs on almost all gear changes.

    The tranny temp has never gone above 228F - but in traffic it usually hits 205F no problem.

    The tranny fluid was exchanged about 15K miles ago so it should still be good.

    Any short term fixes or am I coming around the last bend with this tranny?

    Short term fix I'd suggest a shift kit and aftermarket trans cooler

    If something is going to help it. It would be a shift kit in the accumulator only and one bottle of lucas stop slip. Seems to be a good band aid for the P1811 Max Adapt code you are likely getting.
    I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

    Im not getting any codes yet as I have a reader. After I got the tranny fluid exchanged the dipstick was 'full' - can I add a bottle of Lucas Stop Slip to this or would I have too much fluid in the tranny?

    Any suggestions on a good shift kit?

    so you had the trans flushed? if so you killed it for sure.

    never flush these trannys if they have not had regular servicing over it life. if you were to flush the trans, you want to do it from 30,000 to 50,000 miles depending where you live hills wise. flat lands you can go longer to 50,000.

    do the shift kit, filter, and the bottle of lucas with the 7 new quarts of tranny fluid. then pray some.

    I had the fluid 'exchanged' and not flushed - I know the high pressure flush can kill it, so it was just a drain and refill.

    what the difference between flushed or exchanged, and flushed is not high pressure any thing, the trans does the pumping of the old fluid out, and sucks in the new fluid. at idle in park.

    if you changed all the fluid, more then a pan drop and filter change you flushed it, and killed it.

    if all they did was drop the pan and change the filter the trans should have survived, unless it was slipping before this service you had done, then for sure its on its way out.

    sadly people have a trans start to slip, then do a flush, and boom, its dead.

    It was a pan drop - thats what I meant by exchange vs flush. That was over 15k miles ago before any slipping started so I dont think the 2 are related.

    in that case id remove a quart of tranny fluid, and add a quart of lucas trans medic that stuff does work wonders. dont expect it to last forever, its a good band aid tho.
