I want to order a trans cooler before I even start thinking about any other mods. Which ones have you guys use that you recommend?? And also Im thinking of a transgo shift kit as a member recommended to prolong the life of the tranny

I'd likely see what TripleEdgePerformance.com recommends. Dave and the guys have dealt with a number of GXP's and have experience in the heat issues.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

If u email triple edge performance they have a bolt on tranny cooler that is a complete bypass of the stock radiator that is supposed to be awesome. I plan to order one my self. They sent me pics of if and it has a couple inches between it and the radiator and bolts to preexisting bolts on the frame of the vehicle. I also researched the parts they use to make it and the price they charge is actually good since the weld the fittings and all on.

Although currently I'm just running two cooler I bought from oreillys

I'm just running one and bypassed factory and it sits in the bumper. It was the rv sized one but I have no issues in Arizona heat and always under 185 degrees. I disagree with leaving the factory one in place at all but that's another story debate. Regardless the coolers you can buy at your local auto parts store will Help

I say run standalone for a couple of reasons gxp's thermostat doesn't open till 192 degrees even if you have a aftermarket thermostat the fans will not come on till 192 degrees regardless of tune unless you're running a 2 bar os from HP tuners which only 2-3 turbo guys are running. So you're factory trans cooler is also co located with the radiator Having trans fluid run through it will keep it cooking and not give the fluid a real chance to cool back down before it enters Trans. Then you add another cooler well then the transmission has to Pump more fluid around to the cooler you install which in turn cools a little but it can only do so much. So at that point you're not maximizing your investment in buying the second cooler. Running standalone keeps it efficient without the heat soak and minimizing the amount of fluid having to be pumped around. That's my logic and has worked Well. And for you guys talking about cold weather theory I get it but if you're that guy that likes to do a lot of asshole driving before the car even warms up nothing will save your transmission anyway. And not to mention the transmission has tables already built in for colder weather operation.

If I have a standard transmission, can I replace it with a HD transmission from triple edge? In doing so will there need to be anything else I need for suck swap out?

    Dave's transmissions are top notch.

I had one in my GXP with all the goodies and 3.69's. Would do it again in a heartbeat. It really woke up the car after the gear and tune. Really helped pull it together.

The install was a lot more time consuming compared to a 3800 (since they're basically the same transmission)...tons of little clips, a few different brackets, etc.

However after the install the radiator was bypassed and I ran a Tru-Cool 4590 RV cooler. Never saw temps over 182* even beating the snot out of it on a hot day; completely different from the factory setup with no cooler that would go north of 220* quite often.
