So I put in a trans into my car. Only replaced the chain. I turn my car on them go to shift it throw the gears. When I put it in reverse the servo cover snap ring popped and the cover blew off.

Why would this happen? Is it worth putting back on and trying again or should I just say F it.

I'd say check the snap ring groove. If it's good I'd say just put it back together and hope for the best. If its gouged out with not enough "catch" area, you might need a new tranny.

Reverse servo is a PITA to get the snap ring in. I would say that it wasn't not seeded all the way down or the snap ring fully in the groove. I have a hard time picturing that grove becoming damanged or worn out. I'd say try again and make sure that the snap ring is sitting exactly where it's supposed to be.

Previous owner pulled that ring to show Max how tough it was going to be to inspect his in the car. Was pretty sure we had it back in place. Super sorry about that buddy.

No problem actually went in pretty easy. Was able to use the exhaust manifold as leverage to push down the cover.
