jesus before you get a shift kit do you have transmission cooler installed? have you bothered to check your mounts? after you diagnose those areas then worry about a shift kit and even then get youreself a tune first
Dave will tell you that A. you need a transmission cooler B. you want a shift kit C. you want a tune. GXP's factory transmission temps are well beyond 200 degrees whihch is why we fry them quicker plus other variables but heat being numero uno
The DIC dosent display 100%accuratley if you were scanning your car through hptuners or diablo then i would agree with your statement, but all you have to do is search for LS4 transmission related problems and mostly all of them will recommend a tranny cooler and shift kit.
Just incase anyone was wondering I have not been able to make it to TripleEdgePerformance yet but I did email David and this is what I was told
Hi Andrew,Thanks for your inquiry.* I took a quick look at your thread on GPF and Im not sure a shift kit is going to cure your problems though it could help.* The shop that did the fluid flush- did they drop the pan and inspect and replace filter OR just hook up a flush machine and not drop the pan or change the filter?* LS4 vehicles are notorious for early failures and torque converter problems that put a lot of debris in the fluid/pan and cause all sorts of issues.* New Dexron VI fluid likely made the shifts smoother and possibly worse, not a good idea on a transmission with slippage problems.* Dexron VI is a synthetic fluid and these transmission do not agree to synthetics well if they are already slipping and did not have that fluid in before and this is also something you will read on a lot of forums- slippage or code P1811 right after trans service or switching to synthetic fluid.* The TAP 192 number is adaptive pressure and that is a very big add-pressure number.* Installing a shift could could help lower this but likely there is too much 2nd clutch clearance and the frictions have already been slipping and started to burn, again common with these transmissions.* In Tapshift mode you have higher line pressure and it will mask the problems more times than not, but the tcm from the factory already has a pretty aggressive 1-2 shift pressure table to make the trans stay alive with the LS4 engine.Schedule wise it would have to be thursday or friday this week and I would need to know a time.* This would be just to look at it and scan it, repair would have to be scheduled later as the shop is full at the time.
Shift Kit and higher line pressure has helped my 1-2 shift immensly...I would start with a fluid filter shift kit if you have the money
Hate to wake up an old thread, but will a fluid / filter change help the 1st gear slip issue? Are ther any other tranny fluids better than dex VI to replace? Just curious because I just bought an 08 gxp and having the exact same issue.

fluid change wont help. if its slipping its on its way out, a quart of lucas trans medic may help make it last a bit longer, but a rebuild is in your future.
the gxp is hard on the tranny.
Not exactly this is why people need that shift kit and or tune it helps alleviate the first gear issue. However not a permanent fix.
Cool appreciate the heads up guys. I've got a lil warranty on the car (extended) up to 100k and have set up an appt with a transmission shop rather than going to the stealership this week. I messed up and went to a dealer and of course they couldn't replicate the issue.
