Thread: Dry transmission

I installed my shift kit today thinking that the cooler line would arrive today aswell, well there tracking thing was wrong and it didnt show up. I figured i might as well wait to put fluid in till i install the new line so i don't waste any new fluid. Is this safe to leave it dry till Monday? its going to be pretty humid this week and id hate to get condensation in there, its all sealed back up just no fluid. I know dumb question but i wanna be sure.

Also 97 inch pounds was correct for the accumulater right?

Yes it should be. Just don't run it without adding fluid.

Consendation would build up inside regardless, though its never that much.

Okay, thanks guys. Im alittle worried about the the torque on the bolts, I searched and searched and found several different answers. I went with 97 inch pounds for the accumulator body and accumulator to trans as per one of bills posts. But since then i have seen a few people including intense say its 120 inch pounds. Is 97 enough or should i open it back up and tighten alittle more? id hate to strip it out.

How about snug?

I never torque those bolts down, snug works.

I usually do, but my neighbor offered me his torque wrench so i took it. I snuged them first, then torqued them down.

Transgo from triple edge.

On fluid. No worries. Transmissions sit w/o being full after being rebuilt etc for much longer than a couple of days.

On the torque, I have the GM manuals and the ATSG rebuild book, torque is 97 inch lbs on those accumulator bolts. The trans pan bolts are 120 inch lbs. I highly doubt the extra 23inch lbs would cause much issue though.

Thanks bill, I'll leave it at 97 then. I trust those manuals more than hear say.Carl, it wasn't hard at all. They provide a picture of how it should all go back together, just make sure everything is clean after you scuff the accumulor bores. Also don't forget to install the new accumulator piston seals, I almost forgot them. All in all pretty straight forward, anybody that can do a pan drop should be able to install it no problem.

The other parts that comes with transgo have to be installed with transmission out. U should had em put those in
