Hey been tossing around switching over to 2.93 gears wondering if it is possible to get to the chain and sprocket with the trans still in the car. Searched and didn't find anything specific to this. Thanx for any input Toby

So you have a compg and you want to downgrade it essentially?

I wouldn't consider it downgrading...just want the longer gears for hwy drivin
Yeah I was reminded why you would want mpg as I drove down the hwy earlier running 80 lol

I'm sure the pcm would have to be programmed for the different gear ratio?

Yeah I talked to a friend of mine and he said it would be a PITA to do in the car...and yes would have to plug in new gear ratio vie HPT
You can do it, but it's a huge PITA. You would probably be time ahead if you just pulled it out.
The biggest issue is the input shaft. You'd need to get the ring off it to pop the new gear on and I'm not sure how far into the TC it's going to want to slide. Otherwise..the writeup I did on 4th clutch hub is the depth you'd go.
I was wondering if I was the only one that had that same thought. I have a CompG trans in my GT(P) and I'm not too happy with the fuel economy I'm getting out of it. Might be a swap in my future as well.

Thanx for the input guys! Will be reading bills writeup!
You guys may laugh, the minute I got 3.29's I missed the highway life of the 2.93's. Now I'm rolling along in the L26 with 2.93's in the trans.
Bonnies came with a 2.86 and an NA motor. You'd never win a race from a stoplight, you'd pass every gas station once you found the highway.
Yeah I was completely unaware that my GTP was a CompG when I bought it...now I know and very unhappy with MPG but I like the rest of the car!
I did a regear on mine in the car. Super simple, just about anyone could do it. Take the snap ring off the input shaft and pull the sprocket off, input shaft doesnt go anywhere. I went the fun direction though lol (2.93 to 3.29)
How bad could.your gas mileage really be with 3.29 what rpm are you at on highway
I average 25mpg freeway and 18 city most people with 2.93 get 28
Yeah my friends 99 gtp gets 28hwy has gotten 30 couple times...mine has gotten 26 1 time most the time it's 24 25
Not bad never really bothered keeping track of mine. One of those cons of owning a Comp G. I just learned to deal with it and tell myself you didn't buy a Prius what do you expect.
I was expecting what my friends gtp gets and had no clue I was buying a comp g lol I came from a Subaru world and had no clue what the competition group emblem meant hahah
