I just skimmed over most of this thread,
But I can tell you from experience that Penzoil and Q should be taken off the shelves, as far as oil goes, I hold the "high" expectiatons for theif trannie fluid.
have built engines and ran them a dozen nights, tore them down, and sludge was already starting to build.
Not my idea of a worthy oil.

A lot of these "specialty" oils that I talk about, and you mention (Amsoil, Royal Purple) do not call themselves Dexron VI or Mercron because they exceed the requirements for those fluids. They are mostly fully synthetic and will last much longer and work much better than regular fluid. But of course at a price.

But to make a comment that they are too slippery is crazy. Again, people need to make sure they know what they are talking about before hitting the post button.

why have I always heard people say to avoid synthetics as they often cause transmissions to start slipping? Does this only really apply to a higher mileage trans? Never used synthetic myself for this reason...

Never heard that. My transmission is stock and original in my car. I am using Valvoline Dexron VI fluid in my tranny now and it is full synthetic. Still runs fine.
