The check engine light came on on the 2000 gt that I just bought my wife. I read it and it said P1887. The description said something about the tcc switch. Could someone please explain this to me, maybe with a couple of ideas?

Your main source of help for that code, Trannyman, is in Branson right now, where I will be heading in a few hours for the Grand Prix meet there. Hopefully someone else that has some ideas will post up, but if not, Im sure Trannyman will when he sees this, just may need to PM him or give it a few days.

A lot of people are making their way to Branson so responses may be delayed a bit while that event is taking place.

P1887 - TCC Release Switch Circuit... whats the car doing? Is it chugged when you stop like a stick shift car does when you leave the clutch in when you slow down. If its doing that then the trans is gone. Please post info on what the cars doing.

The car drives great. Not a problem with it shifting funny, bucking, chugging, or nothing. I just changed the trans filter and put some new fluid in it (the old fluid looked good, but I replaced it anway) with a quart of lucas trans treatment. The light is still on, but it still drives great. I erased the light before I went on a 400 mile trip and it came back on about 50 miles into the trip, but still no problems.
I thought about just replacing the tcc solenoid and seeing what that does since it is on the outside of the trans.
    Any ideas??

The TCC solenoid is on the outside of the trans? Unless you got some vastly different model I dont think it is. Its on the valve body, inside the trans. Im sure Trannyman will correct me if I am wrong which he would be a better source of facts on this than I.

This thread should be moved to the 4T65E section

The TCC solenoid is located on the valve body along with all of the other solenoids. This code is set after driving and TCC is commanded, torque converter clutch lockup which is a clutch inside the torque converter to eliminate torque converter slippage, reduce heat, and improve fuel economy. There is a pressure switch that is part of a pressure switch manifold that is mounted on the valve body and has fluid passages that apply or release the pressure switches so the pcm knows what range the shifter is in and also if there is TCC apply fluid present or not. This is used so the pcm knows that the transmission is hydraulically functioning properly. Code P1887 may set even if everything works fine but the pcm does not see the correct position of the tcc pressure switch. This could be be caused by a few different problems and from the electrical standpoint a faulty pressure switch manifold, damaged wiring inside the trans, damaged underhood wire harness, pcm connector or pin bent or making bad connection, pretty much anything between the switch and the pcm. From a mechanical/hydraulic standpoint IF lockup IS working ok then you are likely ok. If lockup is NOT working ok then you typically have a code P0742 or P0741 present first, but inside the trans if the input shaft oring or seals are bad, seperator plate where lockup checkball has smashed through the plate or stuck in the plate, plate has debris blocking the hole or valve body gaskets are damaged, stuck tcc apply valve. These are just a few things that could cause it but it is best to check the electrical end of the problem first to rule out trans. A road test with a scan tool will verify pressure switch position which should also be checked out. A thorough diag will find your problem but replacing the tcc solenoid and not checking anything likely will not fix anything for you.

Moved it, thanks Dave, I should have caught that to start with.

I had a buddy look up the tcc solenoid at work and it came up with a tcc/pwm solenoid, BWD part number s9818. Is that the part I need or is it the tcc solenoid, BWD part number s9825? I saw the tcc/pwm solenoid when I was doing the filter. It was on the outside of the trans on the back passenger side. I might ask mu buddy to hook it up to his scan tool and see what is going on. How will I know what I am looking at? My buddy knows how to read it, but if he is busy, I might just borrow it.

It is labeled the TCC/PWM solenoid so it was probably looked up right. The part that you likely found on the back passanger side of the trans near your oil filter is the VSS, vehicle speed sensor, and has nothing to do with your code. As I mentioned above the solenoid is likely not the cause of your problem and the electrical end of the actual TCC pressure switch needs to be diagnosed. The TCC pressure switch is not the same as the TCC/PWM solenoid, they are two different parts.

Like Trannyman said, that's the VSS. The solenoids are all internal to the transmission on the driver's side end (valve body).
